In 2019 we supported the Samaritans ‘Pay for a Day Campaign’. The campaign directly helps cover the charity’s running costs, enabling their volunteers to continue to support callers in crisis 24/7.
Samaritans is a registered charity that aims to provide free, one-on-one support to anyone in emotional distress and who may be struggling to cope.
With a call for help answered every seven seconds, Samaritans is vital in helping those who need someone to listen without judgement or pressure. They offer ways to cope, skills to be there for others, and work tirelessly to make suicide prevention a priority.
Their amazing volunteers spend over one million hours answering calls for help to aid in protecting and saving lives, both day and night, 365 days a year.
To help meet the charity’s day-to-day running costs, the Pay for a Day campaign was launched where donations can be made to help assist volunteers in providing this vital service.
Sponsoring their branch for 1 day means that they will be able to answer over 70 calls, along with numerous emails, texts, and face to face contacts.
The Samaritans Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre branch situated on Edward Street, Blackpool, relies solely on donations from the public to pay its £147 a day running costs.
Glasdon kindly sponsored the amazing charity, helping our local branch cover their running costs for 3 days, allowing their volunteers to be there for their community members in need.
Joy Kavanagh, Glasdon Group Director said:
We were delighted to support the charity who provide such a valuable service for our community. Especially in the last year, we know that it is essential for those struggling to be able to get fast support, and with Samaritans being a lifeline for so many, we were glad to donate and play a part in helping such selfless volunteers be able to carry out their outstanding service.
