Ribble Rivers Trust Tree Planting 2025

In our ongoing commitment to the environment and sustainability, Glasdon have once again teamed up with Ribble Rivers Trust to help plant an assortment of British trees.
As a Lancashire-based charity, Ribble Rivers Trust works hard to improve the River Ribble and its environment for the benefit of local people and wildlife. Formed in 1997 by a group of six volunteers united by their passion for wildlife, angling, and the outdoors, the Trust went on to gain charitable status only a year after its foundation. To this day, Ribble Rivers Trust plays a major role in the UK’s river restoration and conservation projects.
Each year, Ribble Rivers Trust’s volunteers plant tens of thousands of trees. Not only does this effort help to combat climate change, but it also helps improve river health. Trees stabilise riverbanks, reduce soil erosion, and filter pollutants, ensuring cleaner and healthier waterways.
In March, a team of volunteers from Glasdon, along with volunteers from other businesses who have supported Ribble Rivers Trust, gathered at Salesbury Hall, Dinkley, near Ribchester. The volunteers got planting after a short introduction, during which they were made familiar with all the necessary tools that they would use during the day.
We are delighted to report that our team of volunteers contributed to the planting of up to 2,000 trees by the end of the day, which included firs and other species native to the UK. Once fully grown, these new trees will help provide a habitat for local wildlife and remain vital for carbon sequestration. The trees were planted to connect two ancient areas of woodland to create one large run of woodland area. The project will see an overall 25,000 trees planted in the area.
Mark Freeman, one of our Glasdon volunteers, said:
Taking part in such an activity is incredibly fulfilling. It offers a chance to connect with nature, collaborate with like-minded individuals, and see the direct impact of our efforts. Planting trees provides a real sense of achievement, knowing that we’re making a tangible difference for future generations.
While many conservation charities in the UK benefit from government funding, Ribble Rivers Trust unfortunately does not receive any funding from the government. The Trust relies entirely on donations and grants. For more information on the charity and how you can help and donate, visit their website.
