In 1959, a small company convinced of the potential of plastic material sold a 'halt' sign that never needed painting, to a local authority. The company was Glasdon.
Founded by the Group Chairman, Donald J Sidebottom MBE, FCIHT, Glasdon pioneered the use of plastic material for road signs and street furniture, offering cost-effective, low maintenance solutions with a long life compared to conventional materials. The use of high-quality plastic for this application, was an early demonstration of the innovative flair which has characterised the company ever since.
Today, with a continuing focus on pioneering product design, Glasdon remains a market leader in the supply of environmental and safety products.
Glasdon Group Limited has evolved from a single one-man business, to a worldwide brand, operating either directly or through our network of distributors in over 100 countries across the globe. Team spirit is fostered at all levels of the Group and employees are encouraged to participate in the development and growth of the business and share in its success.
Social responsibility is, and always has been, an extremely important factor to all at Glasdon. We have been actively supporting the communities we operate in and contributing to worthy causes from the outset, with the full support of our chairman and Board of Directors.
After many years of donating to charitable causes, we decided it was time to go one step further on our social responsibility journey, leading to the formation of our Charitable Giving Committee in 2003. We began increasing our efforts to participate in charity workdays, donate to organisations and support local fundraising activities, as well as gifting products to charities and community groups and offering sponsorships.
In fact, 2020 alone saw us donate to a total of 108 charities and local organisations.
But we didn’t want to stop there. In 2021, we took our charitable giving to the next level by re-branding our Glasdon Charitable Giving Committee as the DJ Sidebottom / Glasdon Charitable Programme. This has allowed us to further our commitment to support charities, communities and organisations that are aligned with our aims, as can be seen in our mission statement.
Forming a charitable programme has allowed us to greatly improve on our social responsibility endeavours, meaning we can donate more, participate more and gift more. We are proud to have reached this step in our journey and look forward to continuing to have a positive impact on our surrounding communities and beyond.
