Wyre Flounders Swimming Club

A safe environment to promote recovery and well-being.

Founded in September 1992, Wyre Flounders Disabled Adult Swimming Club offers a quiet and safe environment to help encourage exercise and promote physical and mental well-being among disabled adults.

The club hires the swimming pool at Fleetwood YMCA every Saturday at 5 pm for an hour for adult swimmers. Members can attend for a small fee of £5. The club currently has twenty members with a variety of physical disabilities ranging from arthritis, diabetes, multiple sclerosis, as well as previous heart or cancer issues.

Increases in pool costs over the years have meant that the club has seen patches of financial difficulties. The cost of hiring the pool is £85 and members are not always able to regularly attend, due to the nature of their disabilities and health issues. While the club has a budget to cover costs, it remains reliant on donations that help keep it alive, so it can continue to provide a valuable service to the community.

The D J Sidebottom / Glasdon Charitable Foundation has provided a donation to the Wyre Flounders Adult Disabled Swimming Club so that it can continue to provide its service to disabled adults.

The DJ Sidebottom/Glasdon Charitable Programme provides support for charities and community projects with donations, grants and fundraising initiatives. All activities are funded by Glasdon Group Limited, with the full support of our Founder and Chairman, Donald J Sidebottom MBE, FCIHT and the Board of Directors. Applications for grants and support can be made on our grant application page.
