Why buy it when you can borrow it.
Borrow It Blackpool is a community-powered membership scheme from the Volunteer Centre Blackpool, Wyre and Fylde. Community-donated and sponsored items are cleaned and repaired where necessary and eventually loaned back to the community for a small fee. This helps create a circular economy, giving new life to items that would have otherwise ended up in landfills.
The membership scheme is run by the community for the community and is accessible to everyone.
Considered a much-needed project within Blackpool, Wyre, and Fylde, The Volunteer Centre is trying to create a self-sustaining non-profit model that will allow it to generate income and keep the project up and running. Currently, items are collected and dropped off at the Volunteer Centre. However, the project has seen more and more people getting involved who do not have access to Blackpool town centre or cannot carry items home. The Volunteer Centre is therefore looking to raise funds to invest in e-cargo bikes to facilitate the transport of loaned items to those members. Initially, the Volunteer Centre aims to invest in three bikes, one for Blackpool, one for Wyre and one for Fylde. This will help provide a sustainable cost-effective mode of delivery and ensure more people are able to benefit from the project.
The D J Sidebottom / Glasdon Charitable Programme has committed to providing a donation to the Volunteer Centre to fund the cost of an e-cargo bike for Borrow It Blackpool and ensure easier access to the project.
